Household Moving Home

Just the thought of packing all the belongings in your home for a big move is enough to cause a nervous breakdown.

However, moving doesn't have to be hard so long as you prepare ahead of time. Specifically, many people need help on approach household packing.

The best way to pack a household is to work slowly and methodically; after all, slow is smooth, and smooth is fast. The alternative is to speed through the packing phase, throwing random items into unmarked boxes. It is these people who will inevitably face the brunt of having to outfit a new home without knowing where any of their stuff is. Proper packing is all about organization; without organization, you're in for a frustrating experience.

In order to ensure that your household packing experience is stress-free, it's important to start as early as possible. Many people wait up until just a few days before a move to start packing. While this might work for some, it doesn't for most. The most responsible way to plan a move is to start packing at least three weeks in advance. That said, you're not going to be packing your furniture or your entire wardrobe. Most people, though, have quite a few things laying around their house that they won't need to make use of immediately, such as books, nick-knacks and other objects. Pack these ahead of time, even if you can't stand the sight of a bare home. Remember that it is only temporary, and that everything will be on display once again as soon as you complete your move.

When packing, always take care to pack breakable or fragile items correctly, rather than hoping for the best. The last thing you want after a long day of moving is to open up one of your boxes only to see that all of your glassware shattered during the move. Be sure that glass and other breakables are cushioned with blankets, bubble wrap or other cushioning materials. It may mean more boxes, but at least your things will be in one piece the day you move into your new place.

Take care to pack each one of your rooms at different times; for instance, it's good practice to designate certain days to specific rooms, so as not to confuse your packing scheme any more than necessary. Always be sure that your boxes are all labeled properly, and when moving, pack each room's boxes together so as to make for the easiest load-out. Also, never stuff too many items in a box. Use multiple boxes if necessary, and be sure to give all your items the breathing room they need. Otherwise, you could end up with a box of broken things.
